Grace

This is Grace.  She loves reading, writing, and painting.  But she is a little slow to finish a book because she is so tiny.  Cupcakes are her favorite snack.  Some things on Grace's bucket list are: meet her favorite author, Grace Lin, eat cupcakes from around the world, meet other passing dolls, learn to dance, and buy clothes to wear when she dances.  Grace is wondering where her first journey will take her, and especially looking forward to trying new foods.

Anne in Micronesia

Anne Shirley must be really enjoying her trip to the Chuuk islands in Micronesia, which is located in the Pacific Ocean.  I think it must be warm and tropical.

Egg Challenge

I wanted to be a part of the egg challenge at Tinkerlab by using eggs to tell a story about one of my passing dolls.

Last night my baby sister sat in the kitchen eating ice cream. When she came to bed, she told me that an egg had run away with my passing doll Missy!  "No it did not," I said!

 I was sure that I closed the egg carton.  And except for traveling, Missy stays in her pouch!

When I was in bed reading, this is what my sister saw happening...

The carton opened slow and quiet.  Inside was a little brown egg, named Samantha.

Realizing she is in danger of being eaten, she sneakily jumps out of the carton.

                                                    Samantha Egg whistles,  "TAXI!"

Samantha had learned about Missy's taxi service from her cousin Andy.

Samantha Egg says ,"Hi!  I'm Samantha calling Missy's taxi." 

Missy responds, "Missy's taxi at your service!" 

Samantha's dad had built this hotel for runaway eggs.

 Samantha Egg says, "Thanks for dropping me off Missy, you're my BFF!  Hey wanna stay at my family hotel? The Eggy Hotel?!!!"

Missy answers, "No thanks, another egg needs me."

Empty!

I guess I should have believed my sister, because the next morning Samantha Egg was gone from the carton and Missy was missing from her bag!  When I saw the empty carton, I was shocked!  This time of year, there are probably a whole bunch of eggs running away.  Will Missy come back?

Shisha

This is Missy with one of the souvenirs that her friends brought back from Okinawa!  This is a paper craft that missy told me to put together, this paper craft is called a Shisha it is a kind of guardian angel for villages in Okinawa.

Shuri Castle, Okinawa

This is Missy outside the gate to Shuri Castle.  This is were the central government once ruled.  It has been home to many rulers but it is so old nobody is sure when it was built exactly.

Okinawa Peace Memorial and Student Peace Monument

Missy traveled with her friends to Okinawa.  They toured many places.  She learned that during WWII, many women and children hid in caves, throughout the fighting. It is important to remember these brave Okinawan people.

Many, many people died during the Battle of Okinawa.  There is now a Peace Memorial to honor those people, and to help future generations learn from this time in history.

"We the people of Okinawa in marking the 50th anniversary since the end of the Pacific War announce the construction of the Cornerstone of Peace.  We feel the strong need to console the precious souls of all who were lost in the war and to pass the lessons learned from the tragic war on to future generations.  Furthermore we hope that the cornerstone of peace will help spread the peaceful spirit of Okinawa and will contribute to everlasting world peace."
